Paper introduces main population-based databases of Czech Statistical Office and their value for cancer programs. Special attention is focused on the population registry of deceased that can serve as valuable platform for evaluation of mortality. Some of the available databases can summarize the occurrence of some risk factors in the Czech population, e.g. in relation to breast carcinoma. Information potential of all examined databases is discussed from the viewpoint of region-specific analyses.
