Summary
Gene expression profiling using DNA microarrays represents not only a powerfull tool for oncological research but have also a big potential to become a standard diagnostic technique. However, successfull microarray application needs to overcome some pitfalls such as sample collection, RNA isolation or nucleic acid labeling. Due to the number of microarray platforms there is no universal guide that can be used by all laboratories. The number of sometimes very different protocols for DNA microarray processing has a negative impact on their diagnostic utilization.
