Summary:
During the past two decades, numerous technical developments have dramatically changed the field of breast MRI. With the introduction of contrast agents, advances in surface coil technology, and development of new imaging techniques and protocols, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging has emerged as a promising modality for detection, diagnosis, and staging of breast cancer. The reported sensitivity of MRI for the visualization of invasive cancer has approached almost 100%. The modern technique, well-defined indications, basic approaches to evaluating breast MRI studies, and several first interesting cases (breast MR studies) are discussed in the following article.
