Summary: Late effects are defined as therapy-related complications or adverse effects that persist or arise after completion of treatment for a pediatric malignancy. Long-term survivors of childhood cancer represent a growing, at-risk and vulnerable population with special health care needs. Because of the potential of childhood cancer survivors for late effects, longitudinal and preventive-focused health care that includes risk assessment based upon previous cancer treatment is recommended for all long-term childhood cancer survivors.
