Summary: Surgical metastasectomy is a safe and effective modality in the accurately selected group of patients. In the review the main factors influencing the benefit of the procedure are evaluated: thy type of the surgical approach, the extension of the procedure, the completeness of the resection, the role of the mediastinal lymphadenectomy. Different types of prognostic factors (number and diameter of the metastases, disease free interval, tumour doubling time repeated lung resection) are discussed, too.
