Summary: Since recent time, economical aspects of medical care effectiveness have been world-widely discussed. In malignant tumours diseases, a close relationship between costs and a clinical stage of the disease is supposed. However, there is a lack of the information on this issue in the Czech background. The authors present a study of female breast cancer care costs (from the point of view of the health insurance agency), with respect to the clinical stage. For each stage, the total expenses during the period of diagnosis, therapy and one year of follow-up are assessed. Furthermore, the study includes the of oneyear-care costs as well as the costs of the proper therapy and its components. The relationships between the items are followed, too. The first results were gained by analysing the group of 74 patients with complete cancer care in Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute, Brno.
