Summary:
Backrounds: Patients with advanced disease have worse prognosis.
Design and subjects: Retrospective study presents group of 59 patients treated in years 1980-1998 at ENT clinic of Faculty hospital and Jessenius faculty of medicine in Martin with malignant tumor of nasopharynx. In all was histologicaly verified carcinoma with different level of differentiation. The youngest patient was 4, the oldest 74 years old. Man to woman ratio was 2:1. Results: Metastases to regional lymphnodes had 60% patients, distant ones 1,7%. 93% of patients had advanced III-rd.and IV-th stage of dissease. 5 years survival independent from stage of dissease was 39%.
Conclusion: In treatment is important combination of all curative modalities chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Prognosis depends on early diagnose and treatment.
