Summary: Ethical problems connected with genetic testing with the intention of the measurement of the susceptibility or predisposition to malignant tumours are presented (informed consent, confidentiality, privacy, the right to know, the right not to know, informational self determination, screening, research, scientific validity, cost/benefit analysis, etc.). The main guidelines proposed in the Convention for the protection of human rights and dignity of the human being with regard to the application of biology and medicine (Council of Europe, Oviedo 1997) dealing with this problem are quoted.
