Summary: Background: It is necessary to understand the rules by which the ration over estrogen receptors is directed to correctly evaluate this ratio from the point of view of boundaries between different prognostic groups of patients. In addition,non- constant amounts of proteins in breast cancers can cause errors at examínation of cytosolic positivity of both, estrogen and progesterone receptors. For this reason,we examined the question of diagnostical exploitation of the fraction of progesterone receptors over estrogen receptors because by this ratio the variability of protein amount can be shortened. In addition,we tried to eliminate the influence of age on the concentration of estrogen receptors by visualization of this influence using graphs of age-relationship of the fraction progesterone over estrogen receptors. Designs and Subjects: We performed the study of clinical results of estrogen and progesterone receptors in the group of patients from Pardubice and surroundings (Czech Republic) with the use of simple statistical methods. Methods and results: We examined both estrogen and progesterone receptors in each mammacarcinoma by radioreceptor analysis of the homogenate We compared mutual mathematical connections of both receptors in each tumor. In different types of graphs we analyzed if different cases from our statistical collection of patients are arranged into characteristic line-forming groups. We ascertained that our laboratory results enable not only conflrmation of conclusions of other authors about the direct relationship of progesterone receptors on estrogene receptors in the tumors, but also reveal the influence of the age on this relationship and also to detach mathematically the influence of proteins from the ratio of progesterone to estrogene receptors. The key informationfor solving these problems is the age of patients. Results of the receptors in the homogenate – if they are notage-sorted(or divided only as premenopausal and postrnenopausal are in the case of some patients non-sufficient and non-correct for simple diagnosis of (+) or in the contrary( -) result of estrogen receptors equipment. For this reason they are non-sufficienat also for evaluation of the ratio of progesterone to estrogene receptors. Only taking into consideration the continuous change caused by the age enables to evaluatec orrectly receptor equipment of tumors. Conclusions: We are successful in taking of such mathematical approach (for the solving of these problems, thereby it is possible to make more strong and more detailed diagnostics of individual patients. By this appropach it is possible to take the standpoint to the possibility or amount of the fibroproduction necrotization, or in the contrary to the influence of the concentration of sex steroid hormones which are formed in the ovaries or in the interstitium of breast cancers. Using this it is possible to decide about a modification of therapy of some patients or about the use of subsequent examinations. The calculation of the ratio of progesterone receptors to estrogen ones and comparison of the result of this ratio with the values typical for the age of each patient is most important for simplified approach It is possible to suggest the suitability of this ratio also for the examination of metastases. Nevertheless, for instance such information must not be neglected at the cancer with mean histological structure, which inform about insuffitient concentrations of both receptors. In such cases, their concentrations are of greater significance than their ratio.
