Klin Onkol 1999; 12(4): 113-119.

Summary: It is difficult to synthesize the transplantation literature in low-grade lymphoma because of the long and variable natural history of the disease. Due to insufficient follow-up, none of the studies indicated that high dose chemotherapy and autologous bone marrow of peripheral blood stem cell transplantation prolongs the overall survival. The available data hint that longer remission duration may be attained with high-dose therapy as compared with conventiona! treatment. This remission-prolongation is regarded as indirect proof of a positive impact of high dose chemotherapy on the overall survival at least in some groups ofpatients with follicular lymphoma.
Prolongation of overa!l survival is expected in patients with follicular lymphoma in transformation and with mantle cell lymphoma as a result of high dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplantation.
