Summary: Treatment results of 51 patients with astrocytoma and glioblastoma multiforme cerebri treated at the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology University Teaching Hospital in Košice during the years 1993 - 1996 are analysed. Patients were divided into 2 groups. The first group of 24 patients was treated by surgery' and adjuvant radiotherapy (60 Gy in 6 weeks. 2 Gy daily).The second group of 27 patients was treated by surgery, adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. 1-year survival of the first and second groups are 62 % and 58 %, respectively. 2-year survival in both groups is 50 %. The statistically significant difference of survival between both groups was seen after 36 months. Etiologic and prognostic factors as new therapeutic approaches are discussed.
