Abstract: The treatment outcomes of one hundred and thirty patients with endometrial carcinoma, who were treated with adjuvant or primary irradiation at the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology of the University Hospital in Hradec Králové from January 1989 to December 1993 were retrospectively analyzed. The overall 5-year survival in FIGO stages I, II and III was 68%. 60% and 46%. respectively. All women with stage IV died within three years of diagnosis. Patterns of treatment failure, both the local recurrences and distant metastases, are presented in detail and compared with those published in the literature. 37.8% of relapsed patients responded to hormonal therapy. FIGO stage (I vs. III. and I or II vs. IV), tumor grade (I and II vs. III) and operability (hysterectomy + adjuvant irradiation vs. radiotherapy alone) were found to be significant prognostic factors for 5-year survival. The rate of mild and moderate late complications after irradiation (LENT/SOMA grade I and II) was surprisingly low (2.3%). Severe late effects (grade III or IV) were not observed.
