Summary: Malignant mesenchymal tumors are the fifth most common type of cancer after leukemia, brain tumors, lymphomas and neuroblastoma in children. Sarcomas arise from nonepithelial and extraskeletal soft tissues. Several important findings regarding the epidemiology, molecular biology, classification and treatment of pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma and other soft tissue sarcomas were recently published.
