Abstract: Localized prostate cancer (T1-2N0M0) represents a kind of disease that displays various biologic activity, as well as differential prognosis in individual patients. This paper represents a brief review of the parameters which must be taken into consideration when radical prostatectomy is indicated. This represents the only form of curable treatment in localized prostate cancer. The operation is safe and presents a relatively low number of complications. The opinions concerning locally advanced prostate cancer treatment are varied. Radical prostatectomy is the best approach in one subset of patients suffering from cancer in this stage. But, even in the others, good therapeutic results can be achieved with a surgical approach if it is combined with hormonal treatment or radiotherapy. Radical prostatectomy in this stage is not usually joined with higher complications as compared with those after localized prostate cancer operations.
