Abstrakt: Prostate cancer is the most frequent malignant tumour in older men. The clinical signs of bladder neck obstruction are prevailing, azotemia and inexplicable bone pain are less frequent. The lack of early signs usually results in diagnosis at an advanced stage when the tumour is palpable per rectum. The diagnosis of cancer must be histologically or cytologically confirmed. The author analyses the benefit of digital rectal examination, PSA analysis, transrectal ultrasound and prostate biopsy in the diagnostics of prostate cancer and elaborates on the practical approach in diagnosis of the extent of disease, as well as its classification.
