Summary: In the short communication, group of 5 patients suffering from cancer and treated by radiation therapy is described. All of the patients experienced painful radiation mucositis. Vaginal gel Prostin E2 (Upjohn) was applied to painful mucosa.
In 4 of 5 patients, pain relief has been noticed after prostaglandin E2 application. Since the 5. day, decreasing of radiation mucositis grade has been found.
Possible mechanism of effect of prostaglandin E2 in this situation is discussed briefly and studies dealing with the treatment and profylaxis of radiation mucositis are mentioned.
