Summary: The group of 32 patients with tumours of major salivary glands treated at the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology FN Rastislovova 43 in Košíce between 1981 and 1990 is analysed. Pathologically, there were 26 patients with carcinoma and 6 patients with pleomorphic adenoma. In patients with carcinoma 13 were treated by combination of surgery and subsequent radiotherapy, 4 by radical course of radiotherapy and 9 by palliative radiotherapy. The overall 5 year survival of the analysed group of patients is 41% what principally matches published data. The treatment options and some possibilities for treatment results improvement, mainly in inoperable carcinomas, are discussed.
