Summary: : The cancer incidence in the Czech Republic has shown a growing trend culminating in 1989. 9 districts out of the 14 districts of the region of South Moravia displayed a marked growth of the cancer incidence, 4 districts had a gradual growth and 1 district showed a decrease. Fluctuations predominated over a smooth, steady development. Cancer incidence of 8 383 (409/100 000) and mortality of 4 882 (238/100 000) were reported for South Moravia in 1991. The lowest values of both variables were reported in the districts of Kroměříž, Břeclav, and Hodonín. The regression estimate suggests there will be about 50 thousand new cases of cancer registered in the Czech Republic in 1995, out of which about 9.480 cases can be expected in South Moravia.
