Abstract
A total of 18 patients in clinical Stage IV germ cell testicular cancer (pulmonary, resp. hepatic metastases) were treated between 1992—1993 by BEP chemotherapy and subsequent surgical removal of residual metastases. Mean age of patients was 26,1 years (range, 15 — 42 years). CR was achieved in 14 (77,8 %) patients following combined cytostatic-surgical treatment (7 of them after chemotherapy alone). Eight patients underwent surgery of residual mass in the retroperitoneum and 6 patients underwent surgery in the lungs. There were two patients with finding of vital residual tumour in the removed tissue. There was one patient with relapse from CR, two patients died due to progression of disease 3 — 8 months after beginning of the therapy. Sixteen (88,9 %) patients are alive by means of 11,9 months (range, 3—18 months) of follow-up. The toxicity of chemotherapy was moderate.
