Summary: Malignancies following previous surgery are relatively very rare, nevertheless very serious complications of surgery. Because of the low knowledge of this problematics are the authors giving a short review of this topic. The cancers may occur after implantation of foreign bodies, or as a late complication of the gastric resection for benign disease. The occurence of the carcinoma can also complicate the urine diversion into the colon. Very serious is the occurence of the lymphangiosarcoma in the lymphedema after radical mastectomy and irradiation for the breast carcinoma. Rarely, there are described another cases of malignancies following surgery.
