Klin Onkol 1991; 4(5): 149-152.
Summary: The authors report a retrospective review of their experience with bilateral testicular tumours. 9 of 495 patients (1.8%) evaluated for testicular germ cell malignancy between 1977 and 1991 had evidence of bilateral testicular malignancy. One patient evidenced a simultaneous bilateral tumour, and, in eight others, a second tumour occurred after an interval ranging between three months and 13.5 years, at mean of 68 months. Authors refer to variability of histologic findings of both tumours, importance of detection of intratubular neoplasia for early recognition and treatment of tumour in contralateral testicle and for fertility of patients following the first orchiectomy. Emphasis is placed on the individual therapeutic method due to the previous treatment for the first tumour, need of hormonal substitution and possibility of implantation of testicular prosthesis following bilateral orchiectomy.
