Summary:
During the years 1986—1989 there were treated 195 patients with carcinoma of the thyroid gland on the II. clinic of surgery in Olomouc. The therapy was radical surgery, in patients with anaplastic or medular carcino-ma followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Differentiated total bilateral thyreidectomy was done in patients with carcinoma, followed by radioiode application and hormonal suppresion. The survival of these patients was 71 %, whereas patients with anaplastic or medular carcinoma died all within 4 years. The authors stressed the necessity of improving the diagnostic methods, especially fine needle biopsy.
