Summary: On the basis of experiences of the Melanoma group at WHO and those of their own the authors beg to present surgical procedures in the treatment of the malignant skin melanoma. They report that surgical intervention still remains the foundation of the skin melanoma treatment being performed in all clinical stages. In stages I and II as a curative one taking over a paliative role in combination with further curative methods in stage III. The authors are aware that the surgical treatment results are limited by the fact that the subclinical dissemination is present already in many cases of stages I and II and that not even radical intervention on the primary tumor and the regional lymphatic nods prevents further proggress of the disease.

In the complex conception of melanoma tretment it ts necessary to centralize the patients on places of work occupying themselves with diagnostic, treatment, and research of this severe affection. In this way only our curative results can be pushed forward a piece. We support our results by 1500 registered patients in VÚKEO in Brno. On the basis of the gained experiences we beg to present some fundamental comments to the surgical treatment of skin melanoma.
