In one third of patients followed we have found increased serum osmolality values already before chemotherapy administration. This fact has significantly influenced the values of parameters calculated from it: Cosm (osmolality clearence) and Ch2O (solutefee-water clearence). Extensive hydratation combined with cisplatin therapy caused an improvement of a metabolic inconvenient situation, so we could not use these parameters for determination of eventual nephrotoxic changes which may occur after cisplatin therapy. The results, however, have us notice the necessity of osmolality measurment in patients not only before chemotherapy, but also before every langer intervention into water and electrolyte metabolism.
